International Hospital Kampala uses KAFTC / Everett Aviation for the provision of helicopter for medical emergencies that would require stable but quicker means of transport, most especially for shorter distances. A helipad was constructed at the hospital premises for helicopter landing.
Facts about Helicopter evacuations are;
- All calls requesting for a helicopter go through our Emergency lines at IHK.
- If the chopper is available on ground, a flight plan is lodged to both Civil Aviation Authority and UPDF seeking authorization to fly, which may take 30mins to an hour, before the helicopter takes off.
- The medical equipment and personnel escorting the patient are all from IHK
- Carrying capacity is dependant upon the size of the chopper available at a given time.
- Charges pertaining to medical evacuations vary depending on type of the aircraft, the distance to be covered or Flying time and other equipment used in relation to the patient’s condition.
- Due to limited space, only one attendant may be allowed onboard during a Helicopter MedEvac or at the discretion of the cabin crew.
