B: MedEvac by fixed wings

The Transport staff contacts the pilot to establish the following, before a confirmation is given to the client, namely;

  • The availability of Aircraft
  • Type of aircraft to be used (depending on the number of casualties involved and equipment to be used)
  • Duration of flight each way and reconfirm costs.

The caller is then provided with a comprehensive quotation for the evacuation. Ensuring that the client has understood the terms and conditions of service.
Payment for MedEvac should be made before departure and where payment is not possible due to unavoidable circumstances, a guarantee of payment must be placed.

Other details to note are:

  • The ambulance crew will begin preparations upon the patient’s confirmation.
  • Take particular note of the airstrip of departure.
  • The ambulance will then be dispatched with instructions on either wait for the charter to return or not.
  • Whether or not there will be ambulance waiting at the Airport of destination, to the hospital.
  • Proper documentation of the patient’s details, communications made and other relevant information are done before departure.
