Procedure for Medical Evacuation (MedEvac)

The procedure for Air Evacuation is as above-for ground ambulance. However, there are crucial points to note:

- Time of day is very important as no Airdrome in Uganda has lights to facilitate night landing and/or takeoff for fixed wing planes, except at Entebbe International Airport.
If the patient is within Uganda and they are to be brought to IHK or any other hospital, then smaller aircrafts can be used to evacuate them, provided it’s within the IATA and /or CAA legally acceptable flying time.
Apart from Entebbe International Airport, the rest of the airfields in Uganda do not have lights to facilitate night operations.
All National medevacs must therefore be after sunrise and before dusk (0800am – 0500pm) and this should be communicated to the caller.

- If the caller is interested in Helicopter evacuation, the Ambulance operations personnel should first endeavor to clarify to the caller whether the Chopper is available or not and advise the caller as necessary.
