International Medical Group (IMG) is a private health service provider with a regional reputation for customer-focus, innovation and quality patient care. Our unique model delivers affordable quality medical services through our network of outpatient facilities called International Medical Centres (IMCs), an ISO-certified hospital, International Hospital Kampala (IHK) and a facility-based medical schemes provider, IAA Healthcare.
Using this network, IMG provides much-needed free treatment for needy patients who would otherwise have no access to medical care. This charity work is delivered through our charity arm, International Medical Foundation (IMF) which ensures our contribution to the communities around us through health programs, especially for HIV/AIDS, TB, maternal and child health initiatives.
IMG also contributes to development of expertise in healthcare through the International Health Sciences University (IHSU), a niche university offering health-related courses.
The hospital was built by our building section, IMG Construction, which continues to deliver maintenance and building expertise for all our facilities.
For the full story of International Medical Group (IMG) one must go back to Luweero in 1987, just after the end of the civil war between the Obote II regime and the National Resistance Army, led by current president, Yoweri Museveni. Dr Ian Clarke made a visit to this troubled part of Uganda and decided to relocate from his native Ireland, in order to carry out community health work. From small beginnings, where patients were treated under a tree, the community health work quickly grew into a health-centre IV and then to a full hospital (Kiwoko Hospital).
Subsequently, in 1996 Dr Clarke relocated to Kampala, where he set up a private clinic, International Medical Centre (IMC) in response to the growing demand for private medical services from the Ugandan middle income group, which was beginning to emerge after a decade of peace. The number of patients coming to the clinic quickly grew and Dr. Clarke decided to develop a small hospital, International Hospital Kampala (IHK) in 2000. However, this was not a purpose-built hospital and was barely adequate for the growing demand for medical care in Kampala. In 2005, IHK moved to the purpose-built facility in Kisugu-Namuwongo.
IMG developed robust private health service systems including affordable and accessible medical schemes through our facility-based health management organization, IAA Healthcare. With a regional reputation for customer-focus, innovation and quality patient care, IMG has developed a robust network of outpatient and community clinics under the International Medical Centres (IMC) model; a charity organization (International Medical Foundation); a university (International Health Science University) and a construction unit (IMG Construction). IMG’s services include a diagnostic centre with state-of-the-art modern equipment – the International Diagnostic Centre (IDC) and a well-stocked pharmacy at the Forest Mall, IMG Pharmacy.
IMG’s unique healthcare model ensures affordable health services for the cash-paying clients, free access to treatment for complex conditions for needy patients and robust medical schemes for prepaid clients. Such innovations ensure an agile health financing model and development of not-for-profit health community programs at the grassroots. IMG’s robust network of a hospital and outpatient services allows effective delivery of much-needed health services both in the city (Kampala) and upcountry.

Our Values
Our 5 Pillars of Service
Our ethos in delivering healthcare is driven by 5 pillars that buttress our approach to effective healthcare delivery:
As healthcare providers, we aim to provide affordable healthcare in an environment that is safe. Patient safety is assured through continued training, feedback, equipment and a commitment to quality standards. Regular audits and reviews ensure that we stay focused on the quality of care we provide so as to satisfy the needs of our customers.
We listen to customer feedback and use this feedback to inform our practices and performance. Measuring our performance includes 360-degree feedback that helps us continuously improve our performance and productivity. We strongly believe that these pillars feed into our performance as leading healthcare providers and ensure continued growth in profitability.
IMG reinvests its profits into capacity building by investing in staff training, equipment and developing health facilities both in Kampala and upcountry. This model allows continued development and improvement of our service provision.
